A few weeks ago, a “self-driving” Ford Transit Connect was caught testing around Arlington, Virginia. But there was something very strange about this supposed autonomous car-there was someone behind the wheel disguised as the driver’s seat. The sighting raised many questions. Was it a prank? Some kind of study?

Not content with its tech-filled Phantom, Rolls-Royce has announced it has plans to make a 60-metre-long truly autonomous navy ship. Packed with sophisticated sensors, artificial intelligence and “advanced propulsion” technology, Rolls-Royce aims to sell to the world’s military forces.

Yes, you read that correctly: Ford put a man in a car seat disguise so that a Ford Transit could masquerade a a true self-driving vehicle. Why? To evaluate how passers by, other drivers on the road and cyclists reacted to sharing the road with an autonomous vehicle.

GM and Cruise announce first mass-production self-driving car

Kyle Vogt, CEO and founder of Cruise Automation revealed very big news for his company and its owner GM, which acquired the startup last year. The news is that they’re ready to mass produce a vehicle ready for self-driving, with everything on board they need to become fully autonomous vehicles once the software and regulatory environment is ready to make that happen.

Intel is building a fleet of 100 self driving cars and it wants to start testing them this year

The latest company to join the race is Intel, the giant chipmaker, which said on Wednesday that it’s building a fleet of 100 self-driving vehicles. The first cars will hit the streets by the end of the year, Intel said.
